Can I just say that you're a cool dude? Because you are. You play a real variety of people and I love your Samus from what I've seen despite only being marginally familiar with Metroid. <3

You are such a sweetheart!! omg, I'm so happy we ended up with them as roommates, because you are so active, so easy to plot with, and you make the tags within a thread flow so well from one to another.

I seriously need to go tag Vriska when I'm not about to be late for class. It feels weird and wrong not to have a thread with you waiting for me when I wake up. XD But honestly-- our CR is wonderful and you are wonderful and you should feel good. *hearts;

I am in love with your Vriska and Aradia so far. Vriska seems to have a lot of thought put into her and it's kind of fun stalking her interactions with people like the Summoner, not gonna lie.

KEEP IT UP ♥

So I haven't really run into your Minato any, but your Link has such a huge depth of thought put into her, it makes me gleeful to see someone else playing a silent protag with that much consideration. You have her so well fleshed out, but you don't sacrifice spontaneity or the present moment in your tags in order to express that-- it just comes out naturally.

Also, as a note, I love the voice you've gotten for her. You balance old timey formal sounding with personable and earnest, and it comes out as being very believable for OoT Link.
ocariness: (Default)

[personal profile] ocariness 2012-01-26 01:42 am (UTC)(link)
ahsdfljdhg OH... thank you! ;///; I'm really worried about getting OoT Link's speech right; I feel like that the game has an inconsistent form of speech from character to character, but somehow it just feels right to me to try and balance that between older-style English and personal stuff.

I'm glad it doesn't bother people I have her talk, because frankly playing her actually silent would drive me crazy. XD
guiltapalooza: (Default)

[personal profile] guiltapalooza 2012-01-26 01:44 am (UTC)(link)
Haha, no, I mentioned it because that was the thing I struggled with most when I played him. XD Darn those Zelda speech patterns, they really are inconsistent. And the fact that we don't have a single hint for what Link's would be doesn't make it easier (I know that's intentional on the developer's part, but god).

I actually wanted to play him silent for a while, LMFAO. Just because I think it'd be an interesting challenge? But I do think canonly he has to speak, because he clearly gets responses from people on specific topics, as if he'd asked them questions.
ocariness: (Hey there!)

[personal profile] ocariness 2012-01-26 01:54 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah it's really a struggle, but part of what is important to me is my character's speech. Link is actually my... third silent protag, I think? (I've played Minato, Naoki/the Demifiend as well.) And I'm really enjoying myself with her. It was a spontaneous AU and impulse app for sure, but I don't regret it a bit.

And as you mentioned, the fun with Link is... at heart, Link grew up with eternal children, so there's a playful and silly side there that can be seen in rare instances. There's also the fact of just the sheer weird factor Zelda has going to the extent Link is confused when people don't know about living Shrubs or singing trees or putting fairies in a bottle.

Though on what you've said about Link's reactionary stuff and people reacting like they protag has spoke--I agree completely. It took a lot of close observation, but I came to the conclusion Link is just poor at social skills, and kind of a derp. Mix that with the fact s/he is one extremely sheltered kid and you have lines like "This precious stone is the Zora's treasure. ... You're not sure what she means by "Engagement Ring", though." Or something like that, and I laugh, because it's cute just how little Link truly understands.

I can't stand that we don't even have dialogue choices beyond yes/no (I'm loving the newer Zelda games have changed that, to be honest, because as a silent protag player I tend to look at the options for questions are characterization bits), but in a way that just makes it a little more fun, since Link is sort of a blank canvas.

[personal profile] guiltapalooza 2012-01-26 01:59 am (UTC)(link)
lmfao ironically Minato was an impulse app for me, too. I wanted to play Mitsuru but she was already taken at my game, so I was like, FINE, I'LL JUST PLAY MINATO, YOU AREN'T MY REAL DAD!! And here I am like, three years later, still with him... They're insidious that way. xD

I've always interpreted him that way, too! I think a lot of Link players do him a discredit when they play him too much as a 17 year old (or whatever age you choose, there). Although as a teenager he's clearly different, I have a hard time imagining that he hasn't carried a lot of his 10 year old habits through. And he is, pretty obviously, a socially awkward derp, lol. Not to mention how extremely sheltered the Kokiri are; I'm not surprised he doesn't know what things like engagement rings are, considering they'd never grow up to get engaged.

But I could go on about this forever, ROFL. I used a lot of contextual clues and menu options and character reactions to make a base for Minato's personality, myself, so I agree with this strategy. lol. I think logically although they're silent protags, there is a certain type of personality that fits with what actions they're shown to do, and what reactions they get. Like what kind of person would be willing to do all this? Those kinds of questions narrow down the possibilities a lot.

ocariness: (Eloquently.)

[personal profile] ocariness 2012-01-26 02:06 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah exactly. Though at the same time, it's always important for us to balance the whole silent protag, because quite obviously each protagonist does have an underlying personality... you just have to LOOK for it.

And yes they are addictive let me tell you ahdfg. I REGRET NOTHING, Link is so much fun because of that sheltered derp side. At the same time I do tend to try and mix in that parts of Link have FORCED her/him to grow up because of all the crap they've seen, but there will always be an underlying ten year old who will be excited to go play a silly archery minigame for a prize, you know?

There's also Link's compulsive habits IF you happen to play that way, i.e. getting ALL THE RUPEES, keeping all the dungeon compasses and maps... Link is obviously a treasure hoarder and a messy person hahaha. In fact, I loved the idea of Link keeping all the old Boss Keys and dungeon maps and compasses so much I included some of them in her trunk just for fun. Useless doodads post-temple? SURE ARE, BUT HEY, IT'S A MOMENTO.

[personal profile] guiltapalooza 2012-01-26 02:16 am (UTC)(link)
I totally agree re: things must have forced Link to grow up in some respects, but in others? MINIGAMES. COLLECTING. GOING ON ERRANDS FOR VILLAGERS!! Oh, you lost your chickens, ma'am? I WILL NOW RUN AROUND FOR TWO HOURS FINDING ALL OF THEM, JUST WAIT RIGHT HERE...

It's just fun to think about this stuff. XD Like I always play Minato with a secret sense of humor that is very, very dry, and usually when he makes jokes they're so subtle they go over people's heads.
ocariness: (Default)

[personal profile] ocariness 2012-01-26 09:46 am (UTC)(link)
Oh man yes to all of this same here XD

Streganato has that same humor but it tends to come out more obviously snarky and biting and sarcastic, but at other times that dry stuff is still there. People have to look HARD to see it, haha.

So we've only had one thread together, but between that comment chain and what I've seen of Naminé throughout the network and log, I really, truly enjoy the way you write her. And not just in terms of characterization; you crank out a lot of internal narration and it paints a clear picture of where Naminé's coming from. Your comments read like short stories, and as someone who loves to see what's going on inside a character's mind and detail in general, they stuck out a lot to me.

Characterization-wise, I find Naminé to be her soft, guilty self with the just right amount of melancholy. She's an absolute darling.

O-oh. I... don't even know what to say besides thank you so much dfgjdbgkj-- I'm really glad you enjoy her! It's always so wonderful to hear from someone that likes that kind of thing because a lot of the time I wonder if I'm boring people or weighing things down with all my pontification about thought and feelings and internal monologues and the like. I'm quite enjoying Zexion so far, too, and I admit I will probably be doing a bit of stalking. I hope I live up to your expectations and thanks again for the lovely comment! <3333333333

I love how you play Willow. Seriously. I love how you have such a depth of understanding of her as an actual person and how you apply that to situations that are very much not of the canonical. How you play her struggle with who she is and what she can do without overplaying it. You obviously have a superb grasp on how she is and how she operates and it shines through in your playing of her.

No, I can completely understand that, especially with the canon point you've taken her from. You're definitely doing a good job with it though - you strike that balance between pretending it never happened and dwelling on it to the exclusion of everything else. You make her human.

You're welcome ♥

God, how can I show my love for you properly?

For starters, I love Willow's sheer exuberance and playfulness, but the underlying depth. I love when people show us what a character is doing and why instead of just writing it, and that is what I love about your Willow. We get to see all the silliness and whatnot, on top of her being the bossiest cutest thing ever.

I love the CR I have with her so far and you're cool OOC. Willow's got enough spark, but not too much to seem like you're trying TOO hard, you know? You make it work really, really well, down to the goofy nicknames movie references, and that is awesome.

Ahhh trying to get both layers of her personality-- the surface energetic, emotional one, and the deeper well of insecurities-- is a real goal for me, so I'm glad you think I'm pulling it off!! Cause she is silly, but she actually has a lot going on, and I try to make that clear to the people I'm threading with. XD

You've taken an ancestor we hardly know anything about and made him a real character, and I LOVE that about the Summoner. He is not just a Tavros clone, he is his own person and it REALLY shines through.

Yet, in some ways, you can see how Tavros is just like him, which is just as important to balance. I love our interactions so far and I can only hope we can keep tagging ♥

SERIOUSLY, he is the cutest Pupa Pan. CUTEST.
