What the fresh hell were you thinking when you put human hearts on the menu? You know some of your players are squicked by cannibalism and you have already made some of them sick. You should have known better and I hope you are all aware that this has caused you to lose the trust of your players.

We didn't believe that simply mentioning the existence of human hearts without any specific description or requirement to consume them would be of special note compared to a lot of the other situations that occur in the game. I can provide a content warning in the cut text, however.

That isn't good enough. People who are squicked by cannibalism will still be forced to deal with it because it could be mentioned in tags to them and it exists in a capacity they can't ignore. It is some of the food available to them and it is seen by everyone.

In the interest of keeping your players from dropping because of your blatant disregard for their comfort please remove it from the menu and issue a public apology.

In this game we have had several instances of actual cannibalism far worse than human hearts simply existing on the menu. The most obvious of this would be what happened to Dax, which was posted on the network and far more difficult to avoid hearing about due to its plot relevance compared to this, which is simply one mention that goes into no detail. This is also not the first instance characters have dealt with food made out of people, with the other instance being in an event.

The menus are easy enough to ignore, and I don't believe any of our players would force someone who was uncomfortable with discussing the menu into a detailed thread. If this were to happen we as moderators would take action as necessary.

While we do attempt to do what we can to provide a comfortable environment for our players, Animus is a horror game that has always featured a level of medical horror, body horror, and general gore. I have provided warnings on the cut text of the cafeteria menu, in the text of the cafeteria menu, and on the plurk about the monthly Tower report, but I will not be removing it from the menu.

Good on you, mods. People knew they were playing in a horror game when they apped. An entire game does not need to revolve around their squicks. If players are so strung out by the hearts on the menu but not all the other examples that have happened over months and years, there's the door. I would be far more disappointed if the modbase gave in to the noisy few than leaving it up and providing some cuts and warnings. If Animus's mods removed and apologized for everything that made a player uncomfortable, then we'd be playing a slice of life game, not a horror game.

I agree with what the other two anons responding to this comment have said. It's frankly quite ridiculous that an anon, attempting to claim to speak for all the players in the game, demanded for a public apology and removal of any and all content that offends their sensibilities.

This isn't a slice of life game, it's a horror game. There's going to be content that is disturbing and squicky, because that's the nature of the genre. If that anon wasn't a troll and an actual player here, they should be ashamed of themselves.

Are the people waiting on results from October's event going to be getting their results? Considering the prize effectively decides whether or not they have a food stockpile for events where food is scarce. Especially since the dinner menu is unappetizing this month and the weather would make hunting and gathering less effective. While I understand the mod in charge of it may be too busy, couldn't they pass it on to someone else?

Because it has been so long since the October event's wrap-up post was posted, we'll be leaving that to your discretion. We were using an RNG for numbers between 1 and 100 to roll pass or fail, and characters who had a result of 90 or above passed; you may roll it yourself and have your character's food stores be adjusted accordingly from there. We will not be verifying this with you and are counting on you to use the honor system.

We sincerely apologize for the delay; in the holiday rush it fell between the cracks and as people expressed an interest in moving forward, we refocused our energies on the current events.
