1. [Setting: Elevators] Did you know it takes a half hour to get from the top of the dorms down to the cafeteria by elevator? Well you're finding out now! Strike up a conversation with the others stuck in there with you! Maybe play I Spy or something.

2. [Setting: Floor Eighty-Six] What's with all the mushrooms? And why are they in circles? That's weird--but maybe the mushrooms are edible? On the other hand, maybe you know exactly what these are--and you should really stop that idiot who's going to jump right in the middle of one of the fairy rings before he gets everyone on the floor turned to jell-o or something.

3. [Setting: Floor Seventy-Nine] Fancy some deep-sea diving? Grab some scuba gear, hop off the staircase, and explore some ruins! Just be careful you don't run out of air or run into a shark (or run into a shark while you're running low on air). Of course, if you can breathe underwater or just don't need to breathe at all, then the sharks would be your only worry. Try and find some treasure!

4. [Setting: Floor Fifty-Nine] Is this a torture chamber? Yes it is. Maybe you want to get out of here as soon as possible or maybe this floor really speaks to you. Maybe you want to give that iron maiden try on the first person who happens to wander by! On the other hand, maybe you got a bit too close to something and are about to take a spin in the racks yourself. Hopefully someone will come help you.

5. [Setting: Floor Thirty-Three] There's farmland on this floating island, and anything you can grow yourself is bound to be more reliable quality-wise than the cafeteria food. Of course, the recent odd storms have made a mess of this floor. Get to cleaning it up and then get to growing something!

6. [Setting: Floor Two] It's time for your first collar checkup! Go wait in the waiting room for your turn--maybe strike up a conversation and find out what this is all about! Or try to fight the worker units when they call for you, not that fighting them ever ends well.

7. [Setting: Anywhere] Whoops, you've gotten distracted, or lost, or you're still climbing up the stairs when night falls. It's time for the monsters to start prowling--and one's got its eyes (or whatever sensory organs it may have) on you! Time to fight back, or time to run?

Er...well, I may as well ask and get it over with...Tokiomi Tohsaka wasn't involved in the Fourth Holy Grail War by any chance, was he?

[To be fair, Waver didn't know what happened to Tokiomi. He could've survived for all he knew, but since Rin had never spoken of or mentioned her father he was inclined to think the worst.]

...So was I, as was my predecessor at the Clock Tower. I should clarify we never crossed paths ourselves, and I would certainly say I'm no enemy of yours. I just wanted to clarify rather than hide even that much.

Ten years ago, from my perspective. If you're about to ask for details, I'm afraid there aren't many I could give--even if I could, it's entirely likely we're from completely different worlds to begin with.

[but he's dropped enough hints that he thinks it ended badly for him. 'No enemy of yours', automatically warding her off; even if he didn't know, he'd have to have suspicions, and he'd certainly remembered the Tohsaka name for whatever reason or other. Combined with Kariya and her pre-existing misgivings over his participation - something making her extremely sensitive to picking up anything implying the worst - she gets the picture.

He didn't win, or the man would have mentioned it. They'd never met or heard of each other again, or the man would have mentioned it. Tokiomi had always seen it as a competition rather than a war, for all of Risei's advice...

The possibility of different worlds was little comfort. It had always been a terrible idea from the beginning. Why should that change across worlds?]

[knew it. First Sakura, now Tokiomi; did the world of mages have to claim everything she'd loved? S-She had Rin at least but...

Rin was also a magician. And eight years old.

She'd always been quietly suspecting this would happen. Always quietly dreading it. Who wouldn't, in the world of mages? But to have all those fears confirmed...]

[she's beyond listening; too distraught to do anything but get away, even though she knows barely anything about most of the Tower.

Probably not the best state in which to be climbing the stairs]

[oh for christ's sake she was going to run off and get herself killed. Waver caught up in a few quick steps; having discarded the gloves he caught her wrist in a cautious grip not intended to hurt her.]

Wait. Please, at least listen to me. This place is dangerous, you can't just run off blindly. If you want to leave, fine--but at least let me escort you somewhere safe.

[she pulls away instinctively, trying to yank free from his grip]

-Don't touch me!

[He immediately let go, holding his hands up defensively.]

Okay, okay--I'm sorry. [Waver spoke in a quiet, cautious voice hoping to put her just a little more at ease.] But you shouldn't run off alone in a place like this--you'll likely get hurt or worse than that. I don't want that to happen to anyone, and you seem like a nice person. So I just want to help you, if you'll let me.

My husband is dead... and you're telling me to put that aside?

No--I'm not. Just let me talk for a second, alright?

Listen, it's true that nearly everyone involved with the fourth war is likely to be dead. And I'm sorry for that, I really sincerely am. You're upset about that, and you bloody well should be. Anyone close to them that wouldn't be hurt by that knowledge would have to be crazy. [Not counting Kayneth, because really who cares.]

But this part is important. This place is dangerous. People get hurt and worse damn near every day. It's fine that you're hurting or angry, but getting killed won't solve anything. I'm sure Tokiomi wouldn't want you recklessly running off to get hurt.

I know we just met and you have just about no reason to trust me. But whether you believe me or not, I want to help you. The last thing I want is to see anyone hurt. Do you understand what I'm saying? Being upset is fine, but there's a time and a place--not somewhere dangerous and not right this second.

[listening to his words forces her to stop - bluntly put, there's a lot of them - and whilst they make sense; more sense than she wants to admit; it's just...

...everything is just a bit. Too. Much.

By the end of it she's just... shivering. Not moving for the steps, not really doing anything. She's not a magus; if she can't run, what is she supposed to do?]

...I can walk you back to the dormitory floor if you'd like somewhere safe to rest for a while. You'll be safe with me--I promise. I can fight whatever we might come across well enough.

[Waver held out his hand, offering Aoi a hesitant smile.]

[Waver did so himself, at least--quietly and under his breath as he started leading Aoi upstairs.]

I didn't wish for anything. I was only a teenager at the time--I didn't really think the whole thing through before I got involved.

Ahah... [it's absurd and... frankly just as stupid as Tokiomi's reasons. No grand plans, just pursuing his dreams.

It makes her laugh, then promptly feel terrible as she's lead up the winding stair.]

It's alright--go ahead and laugh about it. In retrospect it was a pretty stupid half-baked idea, but I can't say I regret it.
