1. [Setting: Elevators] Did you know it takes a half hour to get from the top of the dorms down to the cafeteria by elevator? Well you're finding out now! Strike up a conversation with the others stuck in there with you! Maybe play I Spy or something.

2. [Setting: Floor Eighty-Six] What's with all the mushrooms? And why are they in circles? That's weird--but maybe the mushrooms are edible? On the other hand, maybe you know exactly what these are--and you should really stop that idiot who's going to jump right in the middle of one of the fairy rings before he gets everyone on the floor turned to jell-o or something.

3. [Setting: Floor Seventy-Nine] Fancy some deep-sea diving? Grab some scuba gear, hop off the staircase, and explore some ruins! Just be careful you don't run out of air or run into a shark (or run into a shark while you're running low on air). Of course, if you can breathe underwater or just don't need to breathe at all, then the sharks would be your only worry. Try and find some treasure!

4. [Setting: Floor Fifty-Nine] Is this a torture chamber? Yes it is. Maybe you want to get out of here as soon as possible or maybe this floor really speaks to you. Maybe you want to give that iron maiden try on the first person who happens to wander by! On the other hand, maybe you got a bit too close to something and are about to take a spin in the racks yourself. Hopefully someone will come help you.

5. [Setting: Floor Thirty-Three] There's farmland on this floating island, and anything you can grow yourself is bound to be more reliable quality-wise than the cafeteria food. Of course, the recent odd storms have made a mess of this floor. Get to cleaning it up and then get to growing something!

6. [Setting: Floor Two] It's time for your first collar checkup! Go wait in the waiting room for your turn--maybe strike up a conversation and find out what this is all about! Or try to fight the worker units when they call for you, not that fighting them ever ends well.

7. [Setting: Anywhere] Whoops, you've gotten distracted, or lost, or you're still climbing up the stairs when night falls. It's time for the monsters to start prowling--and one's got its eyes (or whatever sensory organs it may have) on you! Time to fight back, or time to run?

[His expression says that Luke is the absurd one here, not him. Even with those wings out of sight, Asch's disdainful expression stays on where they peeked over Luke's shoulders a moment before.

He huffs and pointedly looks down the staircase instead. Not his timeline's Luke, that much is obvious.]

I take it you're new here. Welcome to hell, enjoy your stay.

[Of course he's new here. That's why he's staring, trying to figure out why you're able to stand so tall, and move so smoothly, and not keel over at the first sign of something going bad. He's concerned, actually, and a bit relieved seeing as the letter wasn't exactly... happy, but...]

You're okay. [You're better than okay.] Did Jade give you new medicine? And-- what about our world? Is it really...

[Yeah, taken out of context, this Luke and his questions are confusing as all hell. Definitely new. Definitely weirder than the other two.]

I don't take any medicine. [Beat] And Jade disappeared months ago.

[As for the meaningful question?]

As far as anyone can tell, the only lie in that letter is the implication that this is a pleasant place to exist.

[Aaaaand here we go with the kicked puppy look. This one isn't so good at hiding emotions either.]

It-- it can't be. We regenerated the world and it didn't even matter?

[He steps forward, hands balled into fists at his sides.]

What about Guy and Natalia and everyone else that we traveled with? How can you be so casual about everything!?

[Regenerated the world? ...yeahy, okay, he's so lost. It's at least enough to confirm one thing -]

The Tower takes people from different worlds. Sometimes, they only "save" one.

[There's a hardness in his eyes, his voice. He's no good at sympathy even when the face in front of him isn't identical to his.]

We aren't from the same world. I have no idea what "world regeneration" you're talking about.

[Someone thought that he was the only one worth saving?]

[Two? Well, the Tower and his own... But Asch somehow doesn't think thatvs what this Luke means.]

So outside of Sylvarant and Tethe'alla, there's this one... and then you're from somewhere else completely different...

[He brushes his fingers across the jewel on his collarbone. That's a new addition to your replica, don't you think?]

[His eyes widen a bit.]

[His eyes narrow. Even if this isn't the same Luke, it doesn't soften his tone.]

I'm not your brother, and I don't intend to pretend it for your sake.

I didn't-- I-- I'm sorry.

[That hurts more than it should. At one point he almost died-- they both did-- and there was that sticking point, the one where they're almost too proud to make up. But they've... forged past it, haven't they?

There's no way they're from the same world, not with Asch's lack of keycrest, not with his attitude, not with the way he's able to stand and keep breathing properly without aid. But it still hurts.]

You're not my brother. I know that. You have the same name and mannerisms, but... you're right. [He smiles thinly, hiding away all the pain so that he doesn't trouble this Asch any more than he needs to.] I'm sorry for troubling you with stupid questions.

[There's a hmph - not that he disbelieves Luke being sorry, but a Luke with that haircut is always sorry. It doesn't mean much.]

Stupid questions are all I ever get to answer, not just yours.

[Tower oldbie problems.]

[At least he's not yelling at him. The smile tightens.]

How long has this place been around? What do the collar colors mean?

Long enough that no one cares to ask. People from other worlds have only been here about two years.

And no one's sure about the collars. Replicas all have violet, that's all I know.

Replicas...?

[And that makes Asch double-take a moment, before remembering that, oh right, this Luke is from a completely different world. One where fomicry is not a thing, apparently.]

Copies of people created through fomicry or similar processes. The you of my world is a replica of me.

[... But... twins. That doesn't make any sense! You can't replicate people. However, he's not dumb enough to miss what the Chosen represent, and how his mana signature matched up so closely with that of Yulia. He frowns.]

[That's why Asch is so hostile. It does make sense in that context. He closes his eyes and shakes his head slowly.]

Someone on my world tried to do something similar. His sister had died, so he... tried to find her a new body.

Hmph. At least this version of you can think beyond what's in front of your face.

[Somewhere under all the angry, his opinion of this Luke has just improved, very slightly.

And why does he have the feeling that if Luke had named names, he'd recognize every last one?

... I replaced the other Asch, too. He wanted to go on the journey so that he could die. The doctors gave him a certain amount of time to live, and he accepted it without looking for another solution.

What I did was wrong, but I don't regret the outcome. He's going to be cured soon. [Or... he was.]
