[Easy way's not for him, apparently. There's a little smile on her face that lingers as she watches him try to answer.]

Just because?

[She says it so benignly, only a hint of actual question to it.]

So you don't think your eyes are a really pretty color?

[Because that's just wrong. Clearly she has to go point by point and prove it.]

...Uhm. I guess, those are okay.

[Because sea green is at least somewhere near blue and the realm of normal. Which silver hair definitely isn't. He keeps grimacing at her, because please, please...]

Can't we just leave it at that?

[She eyes him, eyes his grimace - and is probably not as phased by it as he might hope. Still, she tilts her head.]

Can we? Do you accept it, now?

[Too busy smiling.]

Because I'm pretty sure your hair counts, too.

[Ain't nothing wrong with that, as far as she's concerned.]

[She may be smiling, but Riku is still absolutely unamused and it show.]

Naminé... please, just drop it.

[It's been a good joke up to now, but now it's moving beyond that and Riku just. Doesn't want to deal with it anymore.]

[The smile slowly wanes away, split by a sigh. After a moment of studying him in silence,]

As you wish.

[But there is no real concession in it, no repentance at least regarding her stance. It's the truth, as far as she's concerned, whether he wants to accept it or not.]

[As long as they can agree to disagree and it's never ever brought up again, Riku is satisfied. (Even though he is maybe wondering a lot just how she can even think that he-)]

[It doesn't seem like something she can say, 'you're welcome' to. She does at least offer a smile and a nod, then fall silent a few moments. Then,]

So... is it alright if I keep drawing you, then?

[Regardless of his aesthetic value.]

[He looks at her for a second because, light, he doesn't understand why she would want that, but... after a moment he just shrugs.]

If that's what you want to draw.

[There got to be better models than him though... but whelp.]

[It's pretty obvious from her smile that she does indeed want that.]

[So that's what she'll do.]

[...He'll never get it, will he? This must be a girls thing.

He gives her another look before just shaking his head and lying back down in the sand.]

[And she just smiles so very sincerely (and maybe a little playfully) back until he's settled before getting back to her drawing, stealing glances at him every now and again for exactly that purpose.]

Though... with the silence between them and just the sound of the waves rolling onto the shore around them, Riku may or may not be just about to doze off now.]

[There maaaay be little giggle when she realizes that, but she won't disturb him - at least not until her drawing is finished.]

[Well, until then she'll have peace, because by the time she realizes Riku's mind is already worlds away. Though, who knows if it's straying to good places...]

[Does it ever stray to good places? She's patient, at least, until she finishes her drawing, so he'll have that much rest, but she checks on him frequently, both for reference and to see how he's doing.]

[Well, it keeps away from the bad places when he has Highwind with him. ...Or rather Highwind chases the bad places away when he gets near them. ...Or eats them up. Either way, the result is a relatively nightmare-free existence for Riku, most of time.

His eyelids begin to flutter slightly as he frowns and tenses. So much for nightmare-free, it appears.]

[Highwind, unfortunately, is not currently with him. Obviously Naminé just has to pick up the slack. It doesn't take her long to notice the changes, nor to pause to consider him. Her drawing is more or less complete, and she turns away from it without hesitation.]

[For a moment she thinks of waking him, but hesitates; she'll give it a bit to see if it's just a passing thing. (She always is loathe to disturb him.)]

[He twitches as he turns to his left side, body tense as the fingers of his right hand clench... as if he's gripping a weapon.]

[Okay. It... looks as though perhaps now is the time to interfere. She knows the signs of his discontent. She doesn't touch him, but she does lean a little closer to call his name.]

Riku...?

[His eyelid twitch and he shifts lightly when she calls out for him, reacting to it, but it seems like it might take just a little more to wake him.]

[No big surprise there, but-- well, perhaps louder.]

Riku...!

[And if that doesn't work - as loathe as she is to invade his space - she might reach out to touch his shoulder very, very gently. (If his name DOES work, well-- she's happy to keep her hands to herself.)]

[Speaking louder does the trick, causing Riku to flinch as his eyes snap open and he may or may not look just a little pale as he sits up, one hand reaching to rub the bridge of his nose.

It takes him a moment to make sense of it all, the images from his nightmare and his current surroundings, but he does catch himself eventually. After almost half a year of having Highwind around, he is way too used to his Dream Eaters presence it seems. He is not sure if that's a good thing, if a nightmare like that can unsettle him so easily.]

[The blonde jumps slightly herself when he does, an automatic reaction. Frowning slightly, she studies him as he sorts his mind out.]

Of course.

[And even then she watches him, brow tense until she manages to force it to ease.]

... What was it about?

[She asks carefully, delicately. And then her care seems to go even further, because she adds a hurried but not overly so,]

You don't have to answer.

[He draws his legs closer, hugging his knees loosely as he frowns. It’s not that he minds answering or talking about it – especially not with her – but his mind is still just a little muddled and there are just some dreams that never seem to make much sense to begin with, but are still plenty horrifying when you are caught right in the middle of them.]

…The Darkness. Him. This place. It kind of was everything mixing together.

[So yeah... nothing really pleasant.]

[She waits, poised in the same position, as if for fear of making things harder for him by moving. Her eyes search his expression in the process, her own openly concerned - even after he answers and understanding dawns. Her breath stills a moment, then comes out as a sigh.]

I see.

[....]

I'm so sorry. That must have been awful...!
