You get an epiphany, one day, for no particular reason, because that's how epiphanies work. You don't make much of a fuss about it, though you desperately want to laugh. Or cry. Or die.

"Ah," you say, breathing very controlled and fingers already busy with your shirt.

"Eridan." Equius voice doesn't quite register until his hands reach out to stop yours, and you look up at him and feel small and fragile and cheated. "Eridan?"

"Ah," you say, reaching out to wrap your arms around him and cling to him, because you don't know how to explain to him that you've finally realized why every time you tried to approach him or directly help him, back in the game, a doomself would pop in and advice against it.

You don't know how to explain to him, that if you'd known him better then, you wouldn't have been able to go through with what Feferi wanted.
