[ Wilhelm didn't look upwards, but he knew there was mistletoe there. He's been... having very un-Wilhelm-like urges thanks to it. ]

[She took the glass before really thinking about it. She liked wine, and really, with being stuck in a horrible tower, a drink might be nice. But she still had reservations. It was Wilhelm after all.]

[ Of course, this is Wilhelm, so it's unlikely that this is genuine compassion. ]

I face this kind of decision every day. It is the consequence of being free of the burden of a linear view of time. I have never once caused you needless suffering, Shion; but you must understand that I cannot allow sentiment to cloud my judgment. I exist to do what humanity itself cannot.

I know that, but...

[She wasn't actually sure what she wanted to say. She understood that he did what he did because he thought it was necessary for the good of everything. But it was difficult not to hold a little resentment over everything that had happened. Because all of it, all of the pain and loss, had come from him. Even if his intentions were good she found it hard to believe anyone could do that to someone, then suddenly worry about their well being.

If there were another way to reach the future best suited for humanity's survival, I would not have subjected you to the pain I caused you. But it is through that suffering that you have given the universe another chance to free itself from fate.

[ Wilhelm knows he's stretching the truth a bit, here; it isn't that he cares about Shion herself, per say. It's that he will protect her due to how integral she is to their own universe. He will always be motivated to protect humanity, and whether that ultimate goal requires Shion's survival, or her death, he will do what is necessary of him without question. ]

I do not fault you for mistrusting me. I only wish for you to understand that I did not force you to suffer without reason. You, and indeed the universe itself, are stronger for it.
