There are other memories he has of home. He remembers sitting and watching from the beach, sometimes, as dolphins danced and leaped through the waves, amazed at their grace and speed. He wanted to be like them when he was little, before he was taken in by someone else. And it was there that he discovered how vicious those dolphins could be, in a simple book about them contained in the well-kept library of an otherwise crumbling castle.

It had been a frightening discovery, and yet, over the years, the book had become his favorite. He had resolved to still be the dolphin for his father--the speedy and playful but intelligent predator that tore into porpoises simply for existing, that herded fish into tight groups in order to devour them. He would gracefully dance across the battlefield with a smile, too.

He had, since then, become exactly that.
