Your name is DAVID LALONDE, and you are bored out of your goddamned mind.
You chew distractedly at the end of your pen, staring down the chat window as if willing it to show your friends to you. Rose and Jade are both at school at this time of day, you know that. An even further disadvantage there is your time zone compared to theirs, not like it particularly matters at noon. John keeps hours that are best just described as odd, even at their most regular of moments.
Best to forget communication as a means of entertainment for now, then. Blast and damn. Even if it weren't snowing horribly outside, you wouldn't consider that for a moment. It seems that your mother's gone off and locked you in the house again, anyway. Typical.
Your gaze drifts over to the book cases lining the far wall. You think back to a conversation you and Rose had some days prior:
TT: I'll never understand how you can read that book over and over, David! It's not even like the ending ever changes.
Despite your defense and discussion of the book after that, she was right. You've been focusing on it a bit more than usual lately, a change of pace is definitely in order. It'll be good for you. Right, so that resolution squared away, you stand and walk over, determined to pick something out.
TG: you mean like in your choose your own adventure books
TT: Don't laugh! They're really pretty fun. You should try them sometime!
TT: But yes, you see, every time you read one, you can take a different path! And even if you know all the endings, you can find different ways of getting there.
You wouldn't ever admit it to her, but maybe Rose was onto something when you spoke about this.
You look over the spines, trying to spot what you're searching for. After a minute or two you finally catch sight of the set of thin, yellowing, dog-eared paperbacks. For gods' sakes, some of these things are twice your age! In that same conversation, Rose had mentioned the idea that you could just put one away for a few years and forget about it, then it's like a whole new adventure again. Perhaps...really, all of that aside, it isn't as though you've got anything better to do.
Pulling one at random, you give it a flat stare for about thirty seconds. Forty-five. A full minute.
You know for a fact you've read this one, an ironic review is amongst your old posts on the forum where you met Rose. You recognize the title. Rose was certainly right about these books being forgettable affairs; you don't even remember writing that one, much less reading its subject matter. You turn it over in your hands, still eyeing it carefully.
You put it back.
You resolve.
You will never, for love or money or anything else in the whole goddamned world, be persuaded to read anything entitled fucking War with the Evil Power Master.
pesterlog bits are from a "canon" conversation, go read the fic i guess
