[There were so many ways he could have addressed that. So why was his reaction a small laugh? Even he looked surprised at himself for doing it.]

Dammit! Sorry I just....I was expecting you to say something like that, but its bizarre to hear.

Lemme take a wild guess; I'm supposed to be dead, aren't I.

[Do you want a flustered Kirijo on your tail, Shinji? Cause she's mighty flustered now.

Until the weight of his second comment sinks in.]

...You are. But... does that mean you survived somehow?

[But he's been dead for a good long while now in her world. How can the impossible happen?]

[Haha, watching her be speechless is a rare sight to observe indeed. But woops sorry, no answering that right now. He's not quite there yet.]

Lemme ask you a question first. The SEES leader where you're from, is their name Minako or Minato?

Minato. Minato Arisato. But... are you saying that someone else lead you through Tartarus?

[She really just kind of wants to know why he's here and alive right now and not really beat around the bush. But this could lead to important information about the tower.]

[AHA! He had a feeling...and in retrospect, he could have asked for Minami as well. It would have been awkward if she had been the one. Regardless, he got his answer.]

Yeah. That's exactly what I'm saying. My leader was Minako Arisato. Dunno if you've seen her around yet but I've seen your Minato. They both got the same abilities and Wild Card ability. I can see why they'd both end up leading SEES.

[WOW look at him Mitsuru, he's being all ADULT about this and not Shinji the moopy guy. For the most part, anyway.]

[He is being adult about it, and it's... slightly stunning her at how talkative he is. She always knew that he was rough around the edges and tried to do the right thing, but the way he was acting and talking now, it was different.

Whatever made him a little less rough and gruff, she made a silent mental thanks to it and smiles at him briefly. She's almost proud.]

While I may not have his records on me, I do distinctly remember that Minato is an only child and an orphan, and I have yet to meet anyone named 'Minako' yet.

[She pauses, considering a very big question.] How is this possible? The changes-- or rather, differences between us and what we know and have experienced. Is this some feature of this tower?

[You get the biggest shrug Shinji can muster.]

There's a world where Minato is leading. One where Minako is leading. One where Minato and Minami are brothers and Minato leads Strega. Actually...you wanna to avoid him, he's like yours but doesn't have a SEES armband on him. Then one where Ryoji, Minako and Minato are siblings. There's a Ryoji from that world here. You get what I'm saying? It's all screwed up. Not gonna question it.

[He stops speaking for a short moment, letting that sink in, before sighing.]

The only place I ain't dead is in Minako's world. She...it's a long story.

[...is he blushing?!]

[She notices, but barely. There's more important things at stake here than Shinji's love life.]

One that I hope to hear at a later date. But this is extremely odd. Almost like something out of a science fiction novel.

[Or in their case, Junpei's believe it or don't.]

I'll remember the note about the... other Minato then. Thank you for the warning.

[She pauses again, giving him a once over before looking rather forlorn. Different or not, he's still acting like Shinjiro. Still like her old friend.]

...I am relieved to hear that you survived in some time, Shinjiro. Truly relieved.

[Good, because Shinji would agree there are stakes higher than his love life. He shifts rather uncomfortably.]

Yeah...but it's sure as hell real.

...Tch. [He shrugs again] It's only because of her that I'm even alive. [He attempts a bit of old humor like when it was just the three of them.] First you, then her. Why'd I always end up with girls leading anyway?

I don't doubt that. But whatever it is-- this place is, we will prevail over it.

I owe her a debt of gratitude then. [More than just letting her lead SEES. It reminds Mitsuru of how distraught Akihiko was over his death, but she bites her tongue to refrain from saying it out loud.

And she never could tease Shinji like Aki could, but she'll be damned if she can't try at least once.]

Perhaps Akihiko's luck is rubbing off of you. Having girls chase you to let them lead.

...you should go on and talk with your leader. Probably be glad someone else from his team showed up. My story's not quite like you'd remember it anyway. What's your last memory before coming here?

But she sobers up, blinks and gives him a hesitant nod.] At this rate, it's probably a useless endeavor to wonder how it's possible he could be here.

[Which brings her to his next question and she crosses her arms in front of her, as if to shield herself.] I was in the Iwatodai dorm, packing things. But, the last major event that I can remember was... Graduation Day.

[Graduation day. He remembered that day, dodging and pushing away the entire hospital staff the minute he could walk on his two feet, yanking out all of the tubes attached to his arms, and running towards the school's rooftop. Like it was calling out to him...for one last time.

And then...]

...and then you remembered what had happened, right?

...Yes.

[Failing to deliver her speech. Feeling the pull of the rooftop. Meeting with everyone, finally remembering and needing to go see him...

She sighs, looking away for a moment.]

The medical could not find any plausible explanation for it. It was just as if he'd fallen asleep and passed on.
