1. [Setting: Elevators] Did you know it takes a half hour to get from the top of the dorms down to the cafeteria by elevator? Well you're finding out now! Strike up a conversation with the others stuck in there with you! Maybe play I Spy or something.

2. [Setting: Floor Eighty-Six] What's with all the mushrooms? And why are they in circles? That's weird--but maybe the mushrooms are edible? On the other hand, maybe you know exactly what these are--and you should really stop that idiot who's going to jump right in the middle of one of the fairy rings before he gets everyone on the floor turned to jell-o or something.

3. [Setting: Floor Seventy-Nine] Fancy some deep-sea diving? Grab some scuba gear, hop off the staircase, and explore some ruins! Just be careful you don't run out of air or run into a shark (or run into a shark while you're running low on air). Of course, if you can breathe underwater or just don't need to breathe at all, then the sharks would be your only worry. Try and find some treasure!

4. [Setting: Floor Fifty-Nine] Is this a torture chamber? Yes it is. Maybe you want to get out of here as soon as possible or maybe this floor really speaks to you. Maybe you want to give that iron maiden try on the first person who happens to wander by! On the other hand, maybe you got a bit too close to something and are about to take a spin in the racks yourself. Hopefully someone will come help you.

5. [Setting: Floor Thirty-Three] There's farmland on this floating island, and anything you can grow yourself is bound to be more reliable quality-wise than the cafeteria food. Of course, the recent odd storms have made a mess of this floor. Get to cleaning it up and then get to growing something!

6. [Setting: Floor Two] It's time for your first collar checkup! Go wait in the waiting room for your turn--maybe strike up a conversation and find out what this is all about! Or try to fight the worker units when they call for you, not that fighting them ever ends well.

7. [Setting: Anywhere] Whoops, you've gotten distracted, or lost, or you're still climbing up the stairs when night falls. It's time for the monsters to start prowling--and one's got its eyes (or whatever sensory organs it may have) on you! Time to fight back, or time to run?

Speak of the devil. Nope, the door's opening at a floor before her own destination, and it looks like someone is getting in.

[And Lancer just...stares. His Master is gone. He saw her grave. He's spent the past weeks dealing with it.]

[And it's Lancer. Welp.]

Lancer-san.

What are you doing here?

[puppy_lancer]

[The tone is a little more formal than he's used to, but it's indeed her voice. He hurries into the elevator to stand beside her.]

Not much. Just taking the elevator down to get some food.]

Mm, same here. But I meant more along the lines of, why are you in this place?

[THAT IS KIND OF A BIG DEAL, LANCER.]

...I got brought here by Zo.

[He frowns.]

Don't you remember?

No, I don't remember having been here before.

Did I forget something important? Honestly...

What's the last thing you remember before coming here then?

[Was this another of the Tower's illusions? Had her memory been wiped? Was this a case of alternate universes?]

[That's an answer she can give with no hesitation.]

You and Saber just clashed again, but this time Misaya-san was there too. Before that, we ran afoul of Rider.

[Oh god with the blood and the death and the pile of corpses and the do not want.]

...From when that girl was still around, huh?

[He sighs. He's happy that Ayaka is back, but not so happy that she's apparently a different Ayaka than the one who he had been serving the last couple of months.]

[Okay, so the "when" seems to be a key word. When, when--- aw, nuts. She adjusts her glasses in annoyance.]

Are you by any chance implying someone's gone and done something to the time stream?

[He tsks his tongue.]

It's some mix of second, third, and fifth magic. This place is a Tower. We all got pulled here by Zo, one of the guys who ran it. And for some reason, when reaching into our worlds, he doesn't pull us all out at the same times. So when you were here before, you remembered more. Like how we made a contract with each other for our own purposes. That's because he pulled you out at a later time.

[He slowly shakes his head.]

In a way, you could say I'm from the future, but at this rate, I'm not sure that the future is even gonna happen.

[This is Ayaka, this is Ayaka utterly horrified.]

Second, third, and -- what?! Either there's a whole group of them behind the spell itself, or this Zo is...unimaginably powerful, I don't even want to think about it!

[She takes a moment to try to digest this. Yikes, just...yikes.

Now, as for this "contract" Lancer mentioned...she almost asks "why", but stops herself, thinking it over. He said "so that girl's still alive"...meaning something must have happened to Misaya-san. Odd, it makes her a little sad to think about it. It also means something must have happened to Saber--

That's not something she likes contemplating, not at all.]

...A lot's happened after my time, huh...

[Archer had taken to whistling on and off while he waited for the elevator. It was a long wait usually, and the silence often grew boring -- almost suffocating. In this life and the last, he was more much more accustomed to noise and voices and general signs of life.

Elevator lobbies in the tower kinda lacked that.

When the elevator finally rings and the doors slide open, he's still whistling with his hands in his pockets.

...And then he sees a familiar face in the car.]

Ayaka.

[Were Ayaka from just a bit later in the timeline, she would react a bit better. Like, say, politely excusing herself from the elevator. Like, say, running away.

Unfortunately, all of that hasn't happened yet---]

How do you know my name?

[And she doesn't even know who this guy is yet. Oops.]

[There's a thrill, a certain excitement, to seeing his princess again. He smiles, reaching out to the elevator door to keep it from even daring to close and ruin their reunion.

But then Ayaka's words register, and the "reunion" stumbles out of the blocks.

Or it would have, with anyone who wasn't Gilgamesh.]

A joke! I had known of your fire and good nature, but you have a sense of humor as well!

[She's pretty serious about this, actually, and she looks really perturbed.]

That still doesn't change the fact that I don't know you at all.

[One more chance, Gil. One more and then she is getting out of this elevator and waiting for the next one to show.]

Very well! I will play along. [Because he likes her so much. He isn't displeased or upset or anything.]

Do not be fooled by my playing attire! I am Servant Archer, the greatest of the Heroic Spirits.

I-I'm not joking about anything! [Flustered and annoyed Ayaka is flustered and annoyed! More importantly, this is a pretty bad situation to be in. Enemy Servant, check; isolated area, check. She's pretty sure she wouldn't be able to defend herself if a fight started.

So, the only option is...] I...see. Very well then, Archer-san, if you'll excuse me.

[...RUN FOR DEAR LIFE! GTFO in a calm and collected manner, but start running if things go badly. There's a staircase here, right? There's gotta be a staircase.]

[bowandblade]

[She's getting off the elevator...! Gilgamesh looks at the empty car briefly, but is soon following after Ayaka. She had even looked fiery for a brief moment. What a treat.]

You must have just arrived! I would have heard of your arrival otherwise and come to greet you properly.

[Not really. He would likely not have been privy to that information unless Lancer decided he couldn't keep the good news to himself.]

Weren't you about to go somewhere using the elevator?

I can always catch the elevator! I cannot always greet the beautiful Ayaka on her first day in this warped tower of impossibilities!

[His voice resounds, his smiles doesn't fade. He is so happy to see Ayaka, even if it's under such terrible circumstances.]

[And that is about the breaking point for Ayaka's dignity. She is bright red in the face and this close to screeching. Her voice is definitely raised, that's for sure.]

I keep telling you, I don't know you! Why on earth are you talking to me like I do?!

[bowandblade]

[She raised her voice! She looks embarrassed! Archer can only lean forward happily, even if he's not quite in her face.]

The joke has gone far enough, Ayaka. How you could forget my declaration of my love? I would have your vow for marriage!

[If he keeps this up, he's getting a street-fighting practical punch to the face!]

I refuse to marry a complete stranger! Stop this insanity now or I'll - I'll scream for help!
